Howell, NJ: The Conclusion of Archpriest Artemy Vladimirov's visit to the Eastern American Diocese

On Monday, March 8, Archpriest Artemy Vladimirov returned to the diocesan center in Howell, NJ from Holy Cross Monastery. That night, on the eve of the feast of the First and Second Findings of the Holy Head of St. John the Baptist, Fr. Artemy led the Festal Matins in St. George’s Church. A special joy was present during the service – the kamilavka of St. John of Kronstadt arrived from St. Seraphim of Sarov Church in Sea Cliff, NY.

On Saturday, March 6, His Grace, Bishop George of Mayfield, led the All-Night Vigil with the bringing out of the Cross in the main church of Holy Cross Monastery. His Grace was co-served by Fr. Artemy, monastery administrator Igumen Seraphim (Voepel), and the monastery clergy, in the presence of a multitude of the faithful.

On Saturday the 30th and Sunday the 31st of January, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited the Church of St. Prince Vladimir, Equal-of-the-Apostles, in Miami, FL. The wonder-working icon arrived in the city on an evening flight from snowy Nashville, accompanied by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov.

 

Nashville, TN: The Kursk Root Icon visited St. Innocent of Moscow Mission
January 31, 2010
On Friday, January 29, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God left Norfolk and began its trek by car to the west, through the Appalachian and Allegheny Mountains to Nashville, the capital of Tennessee. On the road to the Nashville, the icon was greeted by a winter snowstorm, which so thoroughly covered the roads in snow and ice that the trip lasted over 15 hours.

 

Virginia Beach, VA: The Kursk Root Icon visited the parish of St. Joseph of Optina

On Thursday, January 28, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited the parish of St. Joseph of Optina in Virginia Beach, VA. The city sits on the Chesapeake Bay, the biggest bay in the United States. Entering the city from the north, the icon traveled over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, which at 23 miles long was considered one of the seven engineering wonders of the modern world at the time of construction.

On January 19 of this year, on the feast of the Lord’s Epiphany, after the Divine Liturgy in St. Alexander Nevsky Church in Richmond, ME, parishioners participated in a procession through the town to the shore of the Kennebec River, led by rector Archpriest Chad Williams. In the center of the river, a large cross was cut out of the ice, at the foot of which Fr. Chad performed the blessing of the water, plunging a cross into the icy water, while the faithful sang the festal troparion.

On Thursday the 14th and Friday the 15th of January, 2010, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Seraphim of Sarov Church in Sea Cliff, NY, for the divine services in honor of St. Seraphim of Sarov, the church’s lesser parish feast day. On the eve of the feast the clergy served the Matins, after which a Nativity reception for parishioners was held in the rectory.

On Sunday, January 10, His Grace Jerome, Bishop of Manhattan, visited the parish and celebrated the Divine Liturgy. The Nativity in Monasteries of the Eastern American Diocese

On the Feast of Christ’s Nativity, festal divine services were celebrated in monasteries across the Eastern American Diocese. His Grace, Bishop George of Mayfield, led the divine services in Holy Cross Monastery. A very powerful earthquake has devastated Haiti, the poorest country in our hemisphere. The media reports that up to 3,000,000 Haitians have been affected by this calamity. Life in Haiti is very difficult under normal circumstances. Now it is on the brink of becoming unbearable. Officials fear thousands - perhaps more than 100,000 have perished.

 

New York: Fr. Rodion Aragon reposed in the Lord

Fr. Rodion Aragon, the only ROCOR priest in Costa Rica, died of stomach cancer at 9:20 AM today. He was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer in November 2009.  Doctors were unable to operate on him and simply closed the incision. After he awoke, he was in such pain that the doctors put him back to sleep. Fr. Rodion enrolled into the Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville and was planning to continue his education.

The icon was greeted by the parish children and young altar servers, who accompanied the Heavenly Queen into the church, reminiscent of the Entry of the Holy Theotokos into the Temple.

On Saturday, January 2, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God left Jersey City and arrived at St. Vladimir Memorial Church in Jackson, NJ. The icon was greeted by the faithful, then an akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos was served immediately. After the akathist, the All-Night Vigil was served, led by Archpriest Philip Petrovsky.

On Saturday, January 2, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited Sts. Peter & Paul Church (OCA) in Jersey City, NJ. The parish was founded in 1907 by Priest-Martyr Alexander Hotovitzky, and for some time served as the cathedra of the ever-memorable Archbishop Vitaly (Maximenko). The Liturgy was celebrated by the primate of the Orthodox Church in America, His Beatitude, the Most Blessed Jonah, Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan of All America and Canada.

On June 3, 2009, through the Lord’s mercy, the parishioners of Holy Apostles witnessed a pure miracle in the wondrous gift which was given to us: a beautiful brick country church situated on two acres of land in Beltsville.

The moleben with akathist was led by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, co-served by Fr. Ion and Priest John Vass in the presence of a crowd of worshipers.

On Thursday, December 24, on the eve of the feast of Sts. Spyridon of Tremithus and Herman of Alaska, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God arrived at Holy Cross Monastery in the rolling hills of West Virginia, near the town of Wayne. Upon greeting the wonder-working icon, His Grace, Bishop George of Mayfield, abbot of the monastery, exclaimed, "And whence it this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" (Luke 1:43).

On Thursday, December 24, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited All Saints of North America Church in the town of Middlebrook, Virginia. In the words of the ever-memorable Archbishop Nikon (Rklitsky): "The snowy plain stretches out expansively, and in the midst of it, as little oases, numerous well-to-do farms dot the landscape with their tall silos." In the midst of these farms, a remarkable Orthodox church sits, occupying an old building, once a Lutheran church, founded in 1882.

 

Mebane, NC: The Kursk Root Icon visited Holy Trinity Church
December 23, 2009
On Wednesday, December 23, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited Holy Trinity Church in Mebane, NC. The community of Holy Trinity Church was founded in 1991, and has for many years lacked a church building. By God's mercy, the parishioners were able to obtain land and an old furniture factory, which is currently undergoing major renovations to convert it to a beautiful Orthodox church.
