Vineland, NJ: On Holy Pentecost, Metropolitan Hilarion leads Patronal Feast Day of Holy Trinity Church

On Sunday, May 31, the feast of Holy Pentecost, Holy Trinity Church in Vineland, NJ celebrated its patronal feast day, in honor of which His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern American & New York, paid an archpastoral visit to the parish. His Eminence led the festal All-Night Vigil and Divine Liturgy. The First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad was co-served by parish rector Archpriest Liubo Milosevich, Priest Eugene Solodky (cleric of St. Andrew’s Naval Cathedral in Philadelphia, PA), Protodeacon Stephen Howanetz and Deacon Nathaniel Sorochka (clerics of St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield, PA), Deacon Dionysius Lvov (cleric of the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City), and parish Deacon Dimitri Krenitsky.

The hymns were sung by the choir, directed by Vera Solodky. Praying at the service were students of the parish Sunday school (headmaster Deacon Serge Ohotin), parishioners, and guests from near and far. Upon completion of the Liturgy, Metropolitan Hilarion led Great Vespers with the reading of the Kneeling Prayers. Upon completion of the festal services, His Eminence addressed the faithful with an archpastoral sermon, in which he spoke about the grace of the Holy Spirit flowing forth like a river upon the Apostles. Not only then, but now, too, each of us can receive that grace by praying in church and taking part in the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

Metropolitan Hilarion congratulated everyone on the occasion of the feast, and especially offered his thanks to Fr. Liubo and the choir. His Eminence then took part in a festal luncheon organized by the parish sisterhood. The Metropolitan spoke with parishioners, answering their questions one at a time. In response to the question, "What advice can you give parents and children?", he recommended that parents raise their children in the Faith, bring them to church from the earliest age, join them in receiving Holy Communion, absolutely pray at home before eating, and also be an example to their children in all things. In turn, he charged the children to respect their parents.
