Woodbourne, NY: Bishop Nicholas visits NORR Camp to celebrate Patronal Feast

For the 49th year in a row, youth of the Association of Russian Explorers Outside of Russia (NORR) gathered in their camp in the Catskill Mountains in New York State. Joining them for several days was His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan. His Grace arrived at camp on Saturday afternoon, July 11, on the eve of the patronal feast of the camp’s Sts. Peter & Paul Chapel.

On Sunday, July 12, the feast day of the Holy Supreme Leaders of the Apostles Peter & Paul, His Grace celebrated the festal Liturgy in the chapel. Bishop Nicholas was co-served by the camp’s spiritual counselor, Archpriest Constantine Semyanko, as well as Archpriest Alexandre Antchoutine, Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky, and Deacon George Temidis. Upon completion of the Liturgy, Bishop Nicholas led a discussion with the youth. During his visit to the camp, His Grace would frequently speak with the campers and counselors in the fresh air, much to everyone’s delight.

The following day, Monday, July 13, Bishop Nicholas led three lessons on the Law of God – one each for the troop leaders and the senior and junior groups. On Tuesday, July 14, after a joint breakfast, His Grace thanked the young explorers and called on them all to always "remain Orthodox, Russian, and full of joy," just as they are now. He reminded them that his office doors are always open to all.
