New York City: Traditional Nativity Reception held in Russian Federation Consulate

On Thursday, January 12, an official Nativity reception was held in the Consulate of the Russian Federation in New York City on behalf of Consul General Igor L. Golubovsky and the Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, His Grace John, Bishop of Naro-Fominsk.

The reception was attended by the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York; Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan; clergy of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, the Russian Church Abroad, the Orthodox Church in America, and the Bulgarian Church. Consuls General, as well as representatives from other nations’ diplomatic missions and various religious and secular organizations in America, were also present for the reception.

Mr. Golubovsky welcomed all of the assembled guests to the Consulate and wished them good fortune for the New Year. Bishop John likewise greeted all the guests on behalf of His Holiness Kyrill, Patriarch of Moscow & all Russia.

Mr. Yuriy Sandulov, president "Northern Cross," a fund established for the preservation of Russian-American history, presented Bishop John a gift for the Russian Orthodox Church: a cross and panagia that once belonged to Bishop John (Legky; +1995) of Rockland, vicar of the Eastern American Diocese.

A festal concert of traditional Russian folk songs was then performed for all in attendance by renowned artist Pavel Sulyandziga and Eugene Sivtsov, choir director of New York’s St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral. Before the blessing of the food, the gathered clergy and laity triumphantly sang the troparion of the feast of the Nativity of Christ.
