Poughkeepsie, NY: Bishop Nicholas leads Lesser Patronal Feast of St. Nicholas Church

On Monday morning, December 19, the feast day of the Holy Hierarch Nicholas the Wonderworker, the parish of St. Nicholas Church in Poughkeepsie, NY celebrated its lesser patronal feast day. Celebrating the festal Liturgy was Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan. His Grace was co-served by parish rector Archpriest Alexander Donchenko, Archpriest Nectarios Alejilat, Priest George Temidis (cleric of Nativity of the Mother of God Church in Mahopac, NY), and Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky (cleric of Holy Dormition Convent "Novo-Diveevo" in Nanuet, NY).

Fr. Nectarios is an Orthodox priest with a matushka and children, who was born in Jordan. He celebrates Liturgy twice a month in Arabic at St. Nicholas Church.

During the reading of the Hours, Reader Nicholas Zelensky was ordained a subdeacon. The choir was led by longtime parishioner Valentina Shatalov, who recently completed choir conductor classes and began directing the parish choir.

Honorific diocesan gramotas were presented to George N. Nikolsky and George V. Lukianoff in honor of their many years of dedicated service to the Church and parish.

Parishioners and guests gathered for a bountiful lenten luncheon. While the snowflakes glistened in the winter sun, those present enjoyed unhurried conversation, toasts were joyously offered, and the people took pleasure in interacting with the clergy and one another.
