Brooklyn, NY: Bishop Nicholas leads Sacrament of Holy Unction in New Martyrs of Russia Church

On April 2, the Sunday of St. Mary of Egypt, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, led the Sacrament of Holy Unction in Holy New Martyrs & Confessors of Russia Church in Brooklyn, NY.

His Grace was co-served by diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov (parish rector), Archpriests Ioann Chervinsky (cleric of the Diocese of Kursk), Zoran Radovic (rector of St. George Serbian Church in Elizabeth, NJ), Boris Oparin (rector of neighboring St. Joasaph of Belgorod Church), and Petro Kunitsky (parish cleric), Priest Michael Volzhansky (cleric of the Diocese of Lipetsk), and Protodeacon Petr Utkin (parish cleric). Praying in the altar was Archpriest George Zelenin (rector of St. Michael’s Cathedral in Paterson, NJ).

Upon completion of the Sacrament, Bishop Nicholas greeted Fr. Serge, thanking him for his invitation to lead the service, and thanked all of the clergy for their joint prayers. His Grace also wished all of the faithful a salvific remainder of Great Lent, reminding them of the importance of receiving Christ’s Holy Mysteries at the next Divine Liturgy after Unction, and on Pascha itself.

Almost 350 Orthodox Christians from Brooklyn and the other New York boroughs came to receive Holy Unction. In honor of the 25th anniversary of his ordination to the diaconate (and his subsequent ordination to the priesthood), Archpriest Boris and Matushka Tatiana Oparin were presented with a diocesan gramota.
