New York City: Metropolitan Hilarion celebrates Liturgy in Synodal Cathedral on Eve of Dormition Fast

On Sunday, August 13, the eve of the feast of the Procession of the Precious Wood of the Life-Creating Cross of the Lord, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City. Prior to the start of the service, Metropolitan Hilarion presented the cathedral with an icon of the Holy Hierarch Luke (Voyno-Yasenetsky) containing a piece of the saint’s relics, a gift to His Eminence from Metropolitan Lazar of Simferopol & Crimea during the former’s recent pilgrimage to Crimea.

The Metropolitan was co-served by the cathedral’s senior priest, Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Archpriest Ioann Chervinsky (cleric of the Diocese of Kursk), and Protodeacon Nicolas Mokhoff (cathedral cleric).

Praying at Liturgy was a multitude of parishioners, many of whom communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries. Metropolitan Hilarion greeted the faithful with the start of the Dormition Fast.

Upon completion of the service, a panihida was served for Metropolitan Laurus and longtime cathedral benefactress Princess Elena N. Wolkonsky on the anniversary of her repose.
