Mayfield, PA: Nativity at St. John the Baptist Cathedral

On Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th of January, the parishioners of St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield, PA celebrated the great feast of the Nativity of Christ.

Celebrating Divine Liturgy on Sunday was cathedral rector and Pennsylvania dean Archpriest John Sorochka, co-served by Archpriest Daniel Geeza (cleric of the Orthodox Church in America; retired) and cathedral clergy: Protodeacons Stephen Howanetz and Gregory Petrochko, and Deacon Nathaniel Sorochka. Deacon Michael Pavuk sang in the choir.

After Liturgy, the traditional "open house" luncheon was held for all parishioners and guests.

On Monday, January 8 – the feast of the Synaxis of the Most Holy Theotokos – after Liturgy, the choir and parishioners went caroling through the town, while Fr. John and Fr. Nathaniel took the parish children to the local nursing home, where they brought joy to their elderly parishioners with the singing of Christmas carols.

On Tuesday, January 9 – the third day of the feast of Christ’s Nativity – Liturgy was celebrated in honor of the Holy Protomartyr & Archdeacon Stephen. Cathedral cleric Fr. Stephen Howanetz was offered sincere congratulations on the occasion of his namesday.
