Howell, NJ: Metropolitan Hilarion celebrates Liturgy for Patronal Feast of Our Lady of Tikhvin Church

On Tuesday, July 9, the feast day of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York led the patronal feast day of the eponymous church in Howell, NJ. The evening before, All-Night Vigil had been served in the church. A large number of clergy from New Jersey and New York came to concelebrate Liturgy.

Upon Metropolitan Hilarion’s arrival at Our Lady of Tikhvin Church, he was met by parish rector Archpriest Serge Lukianov and the clergy. Fr. Serge greeted His Eminence, speaking about how the church was renamed 25 years ago from St. Alexander Nevsky Church to Our Lady of Tikhvin and about the wonderworking Tikhvin Icon that resides here, and on behalf of the gathered clergy expressed their joy at the opportunity for prayerful interaction with the First Hierarch.

Metropolitan Hilarion approached the Royal Doors and blessed the new icons of the Four Evangelists thereon.

Concelebrating with His Eminence at the service were: Archpriests Mark Shinn (rector of St. Andrew Patriarchal Cathedral in Philadelphia, PA), Serge Lukianov, and Zoran Radovic (rector of St. George Serbian Church in Elizabeth, NJ), Abbot Vladimir (Zgoba; rector of Unexpected Joy Church in Staten Island, NY), Archpriests Liubo Milosevich (rector of Holy Trinity Church in Vineland, NJ), Petro Kunitsky (cleric of Holy New Martyrs & Confessors Church in Brooklyn, NY), and Boris Slootsky (cathedral cleric),  Abbot Eutychius (Dovgan; diocesan cleric), Archpriest Paul Ivanov (rector of Holy Myrrh-bearing Women Church in Brooklyn), Abbot Arseny (Manko; rector of Sts. Cosmas & Damian Church in Passaic, NJ), Archpriests Seraphim Chemodakov (cathedral cleric), Leonid Goferman (rector of Holy Virgin Protection Church in New Brunswick, NJ), and Serge Ledkovsky (deputy rector of St. Vladimir Memorial Church in Jackson, NJ), Abbot Tikhon (Gayfudinov; rector of Holy Protection Skete in Buena, NJ; assistant to the First Hierarch), and Priest George Kaplanov and Protodeacon Paul Drozdowski (cathedral clerics).

Upon completion of Liturgy, Metropolitan Hilarion congratulated the clergy and faithful on the occasion of their patronal feast day, and spoke about the history of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God. This wonderworking icon spent many years in the United States, and was returned to Russia after the restoration of Tikhvin‘s Holy Dormition Convent near St. Petersburg.

The clergy and parishioners then went in procession around the church. A festal luncheon was prepared for the clergy and guests in the cathedral hall, during which the participants of the feast continued their interaction.
