Howell, NJ: Bishop Jerome celebrates Liturgy, performs Diaconal Ordination in St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

On April 4, the Sunday of the Cross, His Grace, Bishop Jerome (Shaw), paid an archpastoral visit to St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Howell, NJ, where he celebrated Divine Liturgy, co-served by cathedral clerics: rector Archpriest Serge Lukianov, Archpriest Boris Slootsky, Priest Anthony Williams, and Protodeacons Nicholas Lukianov and Paul Drozdowski, as well as Deacons Alexis Golubov (cleric of St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in New York City) and Alexey Pnev (cleric of Nativity of the Mother of God Church at the New Kursk Root Hermitage in Mahopac, NY).

With the blessing of His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York, at the Little Entrance at Divine Liturgy, His Grace awarded Fr. Anthony Williams the right to wear the purple skufia, and after the Eucharistic Canon, ordained Subdeacon Dimitry Lisan to the diaconate. The newly ordained Deacon Dimitry will fulfill his service at St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.

The choir sang beautifully under the direction of Inna Iavtouhovitsh. Virtually all those present communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.

Upon completion of Liturgy, Fr. Serge greeted Bishop Jerome and congratulated His Grace with the 45th anniversary of his own ordination to the diaconate, which took place this week 45 years ago at St. Vladimir Memorial Church in Jackson, NJ, at the hands of the ever-memorable Archbishop Nikon (Rklitsky; +1976). Fr. Serge noted that he served as a subdeacon at that very service. A panagia was presented to the hierarch from the parish.

Words of congratulation were offered to the newly awarded Fr. Anthony and the newly ordained Fr. Dimitry, who was presented with a set of blue vestments from the parish, while his Matushka Veronica received an icon of the Most Holy Theotokos.
