New York City: St. Sergius Chapel at Synod of Bishops celebrates its Patronal Feast - 10/08/16

On Friday the 7th and Saturday the 8th of October, the patronal feast of St. Sergius Chapel in the Synodal building in Ney York City, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York led the divine services in the chapel.


Southbury, CT: Patronal Feast Day of St. Sergius Chapel in Churaevka - 10/08/16

On Saturday, October 8, the feast day of the Repose of Venerable Sergius, Abbot of Radonezh, Wonderworker of all Russia, the faithful celebrated the patronal feast day of St. Sergius Chapel at Russian Village "Churaevka" in Southbury, CT. Outdoors in the fresh air, the faithful lifted up their prayers to Venerable Sergius.


Buena, NJ: Holy Protection Skete celebrates Patronal Feast Day - 10/14/16

On Friday, October 14, the major feast of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, Holy Protection Skete in Buena, NJ – once a Cossack church – celebrated its patronal feast day. One of the most important developments of the past year was handover to the skete of a house for the future brethren, which was itself brought into good order.

On Friday, October 14, the major feast of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan led the patronal feast day of Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack, NY. Despite its being a weekday, many parishioners came in order to lift up their zealous prayers to the Queen of Heaven.


Rochester, NY: Bishop Nicholas leads Divine Services in Holy Protection Church - 10/15/16

With the blessing of His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, on Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th of October, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan paid an archpastoral visit to the Protection of the Mother of God Church in Rochester, NY. His Grace led the parish festivities in honor of the parish’s patronal feast day, which had taken place on October 14.


New York City: Metropolitan Hilarion celebrates Liturgy in Synodal Cathedral, announces Restoration Project in Synodal Headquarters - 10/16/16

On Sunday, October 16, the feast of the Holy Hieromartyr Dionysius the Areopagite, Bishop of Athens, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City.


Atlanta, GA: Clergy Conference begins at St. Mary of Egypt Church - 10/18/16

On Tuesday, October 18, on the feast of the Synaxis of the Hierarchs of Moscow, clergy and matushkas from across the Eastern American Diocese gathered at St. Mary of Egypt Church in Atlanta, GA for the official start of the autumnal diocesan clergy conference. At 11:00 AM, participants greeted two wonderworking icons of the Mother of God – the Kursk Root Icon and the "Softener of Evil Hearts" – in the presence of which the conference will be held.


Atlanta, GA: First Day of Pastoral Conference Concludes - 10/18/16

The first day of the autumnal Pastoral Conference came to a close at St. Mary of Egypt Church in Atlanta, GA on Tuesday, October 18. After the official conference opening and lunch, the first lecture – entitled "A Christian Ending" – was read by Deacon Mark Barna. His talk touched on the subject of lawful preparation of the body of the reposed and burial in the ancient Christian tradition.

On Thursday, October 20, the autumnal pastoral conference for clergy and matushkas of the Eastern American Diocese at St. Mary of Egypt Church in Atlanta, GA concluded with the serving of the Divine Liturgy. The retreat, as well as the hierarchal divine service, took place under the aegis of two icons of the Most Holy Theotokos


Stratford, CT: Archpriest Andrei Semyanko reposed in the Lord - 10/21/16

On Friday, October 21, Archpriest Andrei Semyanko (former rector of Holy Presentation Church in Stratford, CT) reposed in the Lord after several years of failing health. He was 89 years old. Born in Poltava in 1927, the future Fr. Andrei was the son of Ivan and Eugenia Semyanko. He received his education at Lomonosov Gymnasium. After immigrating to America, Andrei was tonsured a reader and ordained a subdeacon by Archbishop Vitaly (Maximenko; +1960)...


Howell, NJ: Icon of the Mother of God "Softener of Evil Hearts" visits Eastern American Diocese - 10/22/16

The Icon of the Mother of God "Softener of Evil Hearts," after her visitation to the parishes and monasteries of America’s West Coast, arrived on the Atlantic coast on the eve of the opening of the Pastoral Conference in Atlanta, GA. The icon illumined the conference’s work from October 18-20, after which it visited St. Alexander Nevsky Diocesan Cathedral in Howell, NJ.

On Monday, October 24, clergy and faithful gathered at Holy Presentation Church in Stratford, CT to bid farewell to longtime rector Archpriest Andrei Semyanko, who reposed the Friday prior. The church was filled with worshippers and loved ones, who came to pray for the repose of their beloved pastor, father, grandfather, and friend.

On Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th of October, several groups of pilgrims and individual faithful of the Russian Diaspora gathered at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY, to honor the memory of the guardian of the Montreal Iveron Icon of the Mother of God – Brother Jose Muñoz-Cortes, murdered 19 years ago.
