On Thursday, June 14, Abbot Gabriel (Kvasnikov), rector of Holy Trinity Church in Mebane, NC, reposed in theLord suddenly. He was 49 years old.
Fr. Gabriel was born Alexander Kvasnikov, son of Victor and Tatiana, on December 4, 1968 in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). In 1994, he graduated Russia's State Pedagogical University with a degree in Mathematics.
On June 1, 1996, he received monastic tonsure and was given the name Gabriel in honor of the Holy Archangel by Bishop Justinian of Dubăsari, vicar of the Diocese of Chișinău (Kishinev). On June 2, Bishop Justinian ordained him a hierodeacon, and the following day ahieromonk. From 1996 to 2002, he served in various parishes of the Diocese of Chișinău, and later of the Diocese of Tiraspol & Dubăsari. From 2002 to 2011, he served in St. John of Kronstadt Stavropegial Convent in St. Petersburg.
In 2011, Fr. Gabriel transferred to ROCOR and was assigned rector of Holy Trinity Church in Mebane. In 2016, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York elevated him to the rank of abbot.
His fellow priests wrote glowingly of their experienceswith him: "He bore the obediences entrusted to him worthily, in the fear of God," wrote one. "He tended his flock with love for people and the Lord’s commandments. Among the priests he enjoyed authority and respect." Another wrote, "Fr. Gabriel revealed himself to be a diligent servant in the temple of God and in the nourishing of God’s people… [he] is thoughtful and attentive to the spiritual needs of parishioners."
In recent years, after the repose of Archpriest Seraphim Scheilder, Fr. Gabriel would also lead monthly services at St. Innocent of Moscow Mission in Nashville, TN.
On Tuesday, June 19, Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan will lead the funeral services for Fr. Gabriel in Holy Trinity Church.

Tuesday, June 19 at 9:00 AM – Greeting of Bishop Nicholas, followed by Hours & Liturgy for the Departed. 12:00 PM monastic funeral rite.
Thursday, June 21 at 1:00 PM – Burial at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY.
Clergy are asked to bring WHITE vestments for all the services.
