On August 23, the 11th Sunday after Pentecost, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City, concelebrated by Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan. The hierarchs were joined by cathedral clerics: dean Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Archpriest Edward Chervinsky, and Protodeacon Nicolas Mokhoff, and diocesan clergy: Hieromonk Peter (Milanovic; rector of St. Anastasia Chapel in Astoria, NY), Hierodeacon Panteleimon (Jigalin), and Deacon Nenad Flora.
The choir sang under the direction of Protodeacon Vadim Gan. Having gathered together to pray, cathedral parishioners confessed their sins and communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.
After the Great Entrance, Metropolitan Hilarion ordained Fr. Nenad to the priesthood.
Upon completion of the service, His Eminence greeted everyone with the lesser feast of the Resurrection (Sunday) and the ongoing celebration of the Transfiguration of the Lord and said, in part:
"Today we had a great joy ‒ we performed the priestly ordination of Deacon Nenad. This is a great development for the Mission in the Dominican Republic. Many Orthodox Christians live there: many have moved there on a permanent basis, while others live there for the summer. There are several missions there, but only one priest to serve, and it is difficult for him to perform the services in all of the missions on different ends of the country."
Metropolitan Hilarion noted that Fr. Nenad will fulfill his pastoral service in one of the missions in the Dominican Republic, but for the near future will undergo training at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY.
The protodeacon intoned the Polychronion for the newly ordained Priest Nenad and Matushka Anastasia.
