Spotsylvania, VA: Myrrh-Streaming Hawaiian Icon visits St. Demetrios Monastery

On Tuesday morning, August 31, Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Monastery of St. Demetrios of Thessaloniki in Spotsylvania, VA in the presence of the myrrh-streaming Hawaiian-Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, accompanied to the monastery by her guardian, Deacon Nectarios Yangson.

Liturgy was officiated by Metropolitan Jonah (Paffhausen; monastery abbot), co-served by Hieromonk Aiden (Keller; monastery cleric), Priest John Cook (rector of St. Tikhon Church in Ruther Glen, VA), Priest Alexander Laymon (assistant rector of St. Herman of Alaska Church in Stafford, VA), Priest Adam Sexton (rector of St. Andrew OCA Church in Ashland, VA), and Hierodeacon Silouan (Brown; monastery cleric). Praying in the church and assisting the choir was Archpriest Vladimir Danylevich (cleric of Holy Apostles Church in Beltsville, MD).

The clergy venerated the icon upon its arrival and worshippers did so throughout Liturgy.

Upon conclusion of the service, the faithful were invited to be anointed with its miraculous myrrh. A meal was served in the monastery refectory before the departure of the icon to Holy Assumption Church in Stafford, VA.
