Harrisonburg, VA: Bishop Nicholas performs Archpastoral Visit to Holy Myrrhbearers Church

On May 8, the 3rd Sunday of Pascha, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan paid an archpastoral visit to Holy Myrrhbearers Church in Harrisonburg, VA and officiated the divine services there for the parish’s patronal feast day.

Serving alongside His Grace at the festal All-Night Vigil the evening prior and concelebrating at Divine Liturgy were parish rector Priest Gabriel Weller, Priest Richard Reed (parish cleric), and Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky (cleric of Holy Dormition Convent "Novo-Diveevo" in Nanuet, NY).

Many faithful filled the church, lifting up their prayers to their Heavenly patronesses. Upon conclusion of Liturgy, Bishop Nicholas delivered a sermon on the topic of the Holy Myrrhbearers. In connection with the feast, he also congratulated the hardworking women of the parish, who were recognized for their continued zeal in Christ-like love for their church family and the community.

After a joyful meal, the hierarch, clergy, and parishioners assembled at the site of the future church building. Bishop Nicholas led a moleben and blessed the newly framed walls and floor of the building that will soon house the ever-growing community in the Shenandoah Valley. The parish recently has been making strides in the construction of the temple, just recently erecting a new cupola atop the church. After the moleben, Bishop Nicholas congratulated the clergy and parishioners with the milestone in their parish’s history, encouraging them to continue their support and to finish the building by the winter.
