On Saturday, May 7, clergy and faithful gathered in St. Andrew Naval Cathedral in Philadelphia, PA to mark the 50th anniversary of cathedral rector Archpriest Mark Shinn’s ordination to the priesthood. It was on this day that Archbishop Seraphim (Ivanov; +1987) of Chicago & Detroit ordained Fr. Mark a priest in Holy Protection ROCOR Cathedral in Chicago. The following day ‒ the feast of the Holy Apostle & Evangelist Mark and his namesday ‒ that he celebrated his first Divine Liturgy.
Concelebrating with Fr. Mark at Liturgy were: Archpriests Serge Lukianov (dean of New Jersey), Luka Novakovic (rector of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Philadelphia), and Thomas Reske (cleric of Holy Epiphany Church in Boston, MA), Priests Alexander Tsygankov (cathedral cleric) and Valery Sukholobov (rector of Joy of All Who Sorrow Church in Philadelphia), Protodeacon Paul Drozdowski (cleric of St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Howell, NJ), and Deacons Evgeny Iotov (cathedral cleric) and Michael Sidorochev (cleric of St. Nicholas Church in Chester, PA).
Also praying in church was Archpriest Liubo Milosevic (rector of Holy Trinity Church in Vineland, NJ).
Upon completion of Liturgy, Fr. Serge greeted Fr. Mark on behalf of the clergy, and presented him with a jeweled cross. He also congratulated Matushka Cecelia and presented her with a large icon of the Mother of God.
During the festal luncheon held in the cathedral hall, Fr. Alexander thanked Fr. Mark and Matushka on behalf of the parish for their many years of service, especially in St. Andrew Cathedral, and presented him with an exquisite walking staff made by a parishioner out of silver. The handle depicts an icon of Christ and St. Mark the Evangelist and the cupolas of the cathedral, with an inscription "50th Anniversary of Priesthood" in Russian and English.
Those present also offered many kind words to Fr. Mark, wishing him many years.
