On Monday evening, May 30, the myrrh-streaming Hawaiian Iveron Icon made an unscheduled visit to St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield, PA. The holy icon was in Northeast Pennsylvania for the Memorial Day Weekend celebrations and annual pilgrimage of the faithful at St. Tikhon Monastery in South Canaan, PA.

Prior to the icon’s return home on Tuesday morning, she paid a visit to St. John Cathedral in nearby Mayfield. Rector Archpriest John Sorochka officiated a moleben before the myrrh-streaming image, co-served by: Archpriest David Hritcko (rector of St. Basil the Great Church in Simpson, PA), Priest Michael Lillie; rector of Nativity of Christ Church in Youngstown, OH), Priest George Sharonoff (rector of Christ the Savior Church in Sugar Notch, PA), and Protodeacon Stephan Howanetz and Deacon Nathaniel Sorochka (cathedral clerics).

With short notice of the visitation, the faithful showed to honor the Mother of God. Deacon Nectarios Yangson, guardian of the icon, delivered a sermon after the service telling the people about current parish life in Hawaii, about miracles that have occurred in connection with the icon, about future visitations on the East Coast, and offered words of comfort.

The faithful were anointed after venerating the icon and given a print of the icon along with myrrh-soaked cotton.
