Utica, NY: St. John of Kronstadt Memorial Church honors Parish’s Longtime Head Sister

On Sunday, January 29, the feast of the Veneration of the Precious Chains of the Holy Apostle Peter, Divine Liturgy was celebrated in St. John of Kronstadt Memorial Church in Utica, NY by parish rector Archpriest Michael Taratuchin. Concelebrating at Liturgy were Priests Joseph Farooq (rector of St. Michael the Archangel Mission in Sargodha, Pakistan) and Ephraim Willmarth (cleric of Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY), and Deacon Michael Sementsev (parish cleric).

Upon conclusion of Liturgy, Fr. Michael addressed the parishioners gathered with a sermon on the Sunday Gospel reading of Zacchæus. Afterward, he greeted Fr. Joseph, thanking him for his prayers and wishing him God’s help in continuing the spread of Orthodoxy in Pakistan. On behalf of the parish, Fr. Michael presented him with a liturgical cross and treby vestments.

Fr. Michael then congratulated the longtime head of the parish sisterhood, Valentina Bazinger, on her 85th birthday. A Synodal gramota from the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York, was read. On behalf of the parish, she was presented with icons of the Savior and Most Holy Theotokos.

Interaction continued in the parish hall, where congratulatory addresses were given. Fr. Joseph gave a presentation on his parish and the various missionary projects taking place in Pakistan, as well as the various translations of liturgical texts into Urdu (videos can be accessed here).
