Jordanville, NY: Metropolitan Nicholas marks First Anniversary of Metropolitan Hilarion (Kapral’s) Repose in Holy Trinity Monastery

On Tuesday, May 16, Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York performed an archpastoral visit to Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY to commemorate the first anniversary of the repose of Metropolitan Hilarion (Kapral), sixth First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad.

His Eminence celebrated Divine Liturgy at 6:00 AM in the monastery cathedral, co-served by a number of diocesan, monastery, and visiting clergy. The seminary choir under the direction of Deacon Nicholas Kotar sang.

Upon conclusion of Liturgy, Metropolitan Nicholas delivered a sermon touching on the life of Metropolitan Hilarion and the importance of emulating his kindness and love for all.

In the afternoon, after a fraternal repast, the clergy went in procession behind Holy Trinity Cathedral to Metropolitan Hilarion’s grave, where the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad served a panihida. Pilgrims were able to stay throughout the day on monastery grounds enjoying the spring weather while praying for their departed archpastor.

The Media Office of the Eastern American Diocese prepared a commemorative page dedicated to the memory of Metropolitan Hilarion containing biographical information, as well as photographs from his life.
