Mahopac, NY: Bishop Jerome officiates Paschal Divine Services in New Kursk Root Hermitage

On Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th of May, the radiant feast of Pascha ‒ the Resurrection from the dead of our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ ‒ Bishop Jerome (Shaw) officiated the divine services in Nativity of the Mother of God Church at the New Kursk Root Hermitage in Mahopac, NY. Serving alongside His Grace were: Archpriest George Temidis (parish rector) and Deacons Konstantin Aleshin and Theodotus Conrad (parish clerics).

On Saturday morning, Vespers and the Liturgy of St. Basil the Great were served, during which were read aloud the Old Testament readings that prophesy Christ’s Resurrection and the salvation of the people of God from the enemy of man and from eternal death. Upon conclusion of the service, the faithful returned home to make final preparations for the feast, while some remained at the church to adorn it for the coming radiant night.

That night, all gathered once more to greet the Feast of feasts. Midnight Office was served, followed by a procession around the church. After the singing of the stichera and the Paschal proclamation "Christ is Risen!", Matins and Divine Liturgy were served.

Virtually all those present communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries, thereby reaching the conclusion of the preparatory Lenten journey to the joyous night of Pascha. Upon completion of the service, everyone gathered in the refectory to break the fast at the Paschal meal.
