On June 2, the Fifth Sunday after Pascha, that of the Samaritan Woman, Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York performed an archpastoral visit to Our Lady of Kazan Church in Newark, NJ, where he celebrated Divine Liturgy.
Concelebrating with His Eminence were: Archpriest Mark Burachek (parish rector), Abbot Arseny (Manko; rector of Sts. Cosmas & Damian Church in Passaic, NJ), Archpriest Seraphim Chemodakov (cleric of the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City), Priest Gregory Patsis (rector of St. Luke Mission in Hyde Park, NY), Protodeacon Serge Shoomiloff (cleric of St. Michael Church in Wayne, NJ), and Deacon Nicholas Ilyin (cleric of Holy Protection Church in Nyack, NY).
The service was held under the aegis of the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora ‒ the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God.
At the end of Liturgy, the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad congratulated Fr. Mark with a double anniversary: the 35th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood and the 20th anniversary of rectorship in Our Lady of Kazan Church, and presented him with an antique icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in a new icon case. In connection with their 40th wedding anniversary, Metropolitan Nicholas presented Matushka Maria Burachek with a jubilee icon in memory of the 100th anniversary of ROCOR.
In the parish hall, the sisterhood prepared a festal meal for the clergy, parishioners, and guests, during which many congratulatory addresses to Fr. Mark were said and familial interaction between the clergy and believers continued.
