New York City: On 23rd Sunday after Pentecost, Metropolitan Nicholas celebrates Liturgy in Synodal Cathedral

On December 1, the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost, Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City, co-served by cathedral clerics: dean Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Archpriest Seraphim Chemodakov, Hieromonk Theognost (Kogan), and Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky, as well as Abbot Cyprian (Alexandrou; cleric of Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY).

Singing at the divine services was the Synodal choir under the direction of conductor Vadim S. Gan.

On this day, many of the faithful communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.

Upon completion of Liturgy, His Eminence addressed those present with a  sermon, in which he noted that it was on this same day in 1946 that the newly arrived brethren of the monastery in Ladomirová celebrated Divine Liturgy in Holy Ascension Cathedral in the Bronx, and that evening departed for Jordanville. Among them were the future Metropolitan Laurus (Škurla), Archbishop Alypy (Gamanovich), and Archimandrites Sergei (Romberg) and Flor (Vanko). They also passed on to future generations the precept to always place their hope on God, to preserve the Orthodox Faith, and to create within ourselves an Orthodox temple and a visible temple here on earth.

Metropolitan Nicholas called on the faithful to visit, support, and develop our church and parish life.

Interaction between the clergy and faithful continued over a luncheon.
