On November 19, the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost, Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City. Concelebrating with the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad were: dean Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Archpriest Gregory Joyce (secretary of Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America), and cathedral clerics: Archpriest Seraphim Chemodakov, Hieromonk Theognost (Kogan) and Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky.
The Synodal Choir sang at Liturgy under the direction of conductor Vadim S. Gan.
Numerous parishioners of the cathedral and faithful from other churches prayed during the service, most of whom communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.
Following the service, His Eminence and the clergy served a panihida for newly reposed longtime cathedral Protodeacon Nicolas Mokhoff. Metropolitan Nicholas urged those present to remember the many good deeds Father Nicolas performed for the benefit of the Synodal Cathedral and the Russian Church Abroad and to always remember him in their prayers.
The funeral for Protodeacon Nicolas will be held on Saturday, November 22, at 11:00 AM in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign.
