Hartford, CT: Talk about St. Olga of Alaska held at St. Panteleimon Church

On November 23, the 24th Sunday after Pentecost, Divine Liturgy was celebrated at St. Panteleimon Church in Hartford, CT. Upon completion of Liturgy, parish rector Archpriest Dionisy Nalitov served a thanksgiving moleben in honor of the upcoming Thanksgiving civil holiday.

After the service, a luncheon was held in the parish hall. Archpriest Steven Hosking (rector of St. Alexis of Wilkes-Barre OCA Church in Clinton, CT) attended the meal and gave a talk about the Holy Righteous Olga of Alaska, the first North American woman and the first Yup’ik tribe member glorified by the Orthodox Church.

Fr. Steven spent many years among the Yup’ik, an indigenous Alaskan tribe, and was closely acquainted with St. Olga’s family and friends. He shared his memories of his years in Alaska, showed slides, and shared many interesting facts about the saint.

Parishioners were delighted to learn about the life of this new saint of the American land.
