On Friday, February 6, the eve of the feast of the Holy Hierarch Gregory the Theologian, Small Compline was served in Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY. Upon completion of the service, His Grace, monastery abbot Bishop Luke of Syracuse, performed the monastic tonsure of Archpriest Michael Crowley, Bishop-elect of Boston.
In tonsure, Fr. Michael was given the name "Michael," in honor of the Holy Hierarch Michael, Metropolitan of Kiev. Addressing the newly tonsured Hieromonk Michael, Bishop Luke assured him that Jordanville will always be his monastic home – a place he can come to for help and for spiritual healing.
By resolution of the ROCOR Synod of Bishops, Fr. Michael Crowley (dean of New England and rector of St. Xenia Church in Methuen, MA) was elected Bishop of Boston, vicar of the Eastern American Diocese. His election was confirmed by His Holiness Kyrill, Patriarch of Moscow & All Russia, at a regular session of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on December 26, 2025.
Fr. Michael’s consecration to the episcopate will take place on the feast of the Meeting of the Lord, Sunday, February 15.
