On the night of Sunday, April 12, the clergy and parishioners of the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City celebrated the principal Christian feast – Christ’s Glorious Resurrection.
Officiating the festal divine services in the Synodal Cathedral was Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York, co-served by Bishop Theodosius of Manhattan and cathedral clergy: dean Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Archpriest Serafim Chemodakov, Abbot Zosimas (Krampis), Hieromonk Theognost (Kogan), and Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky.
The Synodal choir sang magnificently under the direction of conductor Vadim S. Gan.
The Paschal service was held under the aegis of the wonderworking Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God.
At the conclusion of Midnight Office, to the singing of "Do not lament Me, O Mother," the Holy Shroud was carried into the altar. The clergy and faithful, holding lit candles and singing "Thy Resurrection, O Christ Savior," processed with the icon of the Resurrection of Christ into the inner courtyard of the Synodal building. Metropolitan Nicholas greeted everyone with the eternally living words: "Christ is Risen!" Inside the cathedral, the hierarchs also exchanged Paschal greetings with the worshippers, as did the clergy, who changed their vestments into various colors.
Paschal Matins concluded with the reading of the Catechetical Homily of St. John Chrysostom, delivered by Metropolitan Nicholas, after which Divine Liturgy was celebrated. On this radiant day, nearly all the parishioners and guests of the cathedral communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.
His Eminence then blessed the Artos, which will be distributed to the faithful following Liturgy on Bright Saturday.
In the cathedral hall, the sisterhood prepared a delicious Paschal meal for all.
