image

On June 28 – the 4th Sunday after Pentecost – Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City, co-served by Bishop Theodosius of Manhattan. Concelebrating with the hierarchs were cathedral clergy: dean Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Archpriest Seraphim Chemodakov, and Hieromonk Theognost (Kogan).

Liturgy was held under the aegis of the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora – the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God.

The cathedral choir sang beautifully under the direction of conductor Vadim S. Gan.

Many parishioners and guests from other parishes of the Eastern American Diocese prayed at Liturgy.

Upon conclusion of the service, Metropolitan Nicholas addressed the faithful with a sermon on the Epistle reading, highlighting the importance of humility, kindness, and respect in our lives.

Metropolitan Nicholas also reminded those gathered that on Saturday, July 4, a hierarchical Liturgy would be celebrated at the cathedral in memory of the Holy Hierarch John of Shanghai & San Francisco (commemorated June 19/July 2).

Bishop Theodosius congratulated Metropolitan Nicholas on the anniversary of his hierarchal consecration and wished him good health and God’s aid in all his pastoral labors.

The sisterhood organized a luncheon for the clergy and faithful in the cathedral hall.
