On Sunday, February 12, Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville, NY celebrated its annual patronal feast day of the Three Great Holy Hierarchs: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom.
Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, celebrated Divine Liturgy. He was co-served by Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan and monastery clergy. The seminarians added to the uniqueness of the event by honoring the patron saints of the seminary with Greek reading and chant, which they interspersed with the traditional Slavonic melodies. The seminarians had been practicing for this liturgical event throughout the year.
After Liturgy, the hierarchs, monastics, faculty, staff, seminarians, and visitors reconvened in the Seminary Hall for a reception and to be edified by greetings from the Metropolitan and Bishop Nicholas, and a talk by Holy Trinity’s newest faculty member, Archpriest Peter Heers, who connected the work of the Three Hierarchs to the labors of the seminary.
This celebration also marked the opening of a new study lounge in the library, which provides students with a convenient place to work, surrounded by the books they need to assist in their research.
