Prayer in the Face of Inclement Winds & Tempests at Sea

With the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York, the "Prayer in the Face of Inclement Winds & Tempests at Sea" is now available in the Liturgical Resources section of the diocesan website. In light of the approaching Hurricane Irma, which threatens the communities of the Eastern American Diocese and has already caused major destruction in the Caribbean, rectors and abbots are asked to read this prayer at the divine services, and laity are asked to read it in their private prayers.


Jordanville, NY: Annual Pilgrimage to Holy Trinity Monastery will be held September 2-4

The annual pilgrimage to Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY, in honor of the feast of Venerable Job of Pochaev, will be held September 2-4. Divine Liturgy on Sunday morning will be celebrated by Bishop Jerome, while Metropolitan Jonah will celebrate Liturgy on Monday morning. This year, the PaTRAM Institute will be hosting their Conductors’ & Singers’ Workshop in conjunction with the pilgrimage. Resolution of ROCOR Synod of Bishops to hold Plate Collections to Benefit Synodal Church Music Committee

At the session of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Church Abroad, held on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, Synod members resolved to hold plate collections in all monasteries and parishes of the Russian Church Abroad on the second Sunday in September to benefit the Synodal Church Music Committee. Parishes are instructed to send the collected amount to their diocesan chanceries with the designation: "Synodal Liturgical Music Commission." Howell, NJ: PaTRAM Singers Choir to sing all-English Liturgy at St. Alexander Nevsky Diocesan Cathedral

On Tuesday, September 12, the PaTRAM Institute Singers Choir, conducted by Maestro Peter Jermihov, will sing an original all-English Liturgy based on the Russian style, commissioned by PaTRAM Institute and composed by Kurt Sander, at St. Alexander Nevsky Diocesan Cathedral in Howell, NJ. Jackson, NJ: Details for St. Vladimir’s Day Celebrations posted on Diocesan Website

Sunday, July 30, will mark the annual national St. Vladimir’s Day Celebrations, in honor of the Baptism of the Russian people into the Orthodox Christian Faith by St. Vladimir. In accordance with Diasporan tradition, the national celebrations in honor of St. Vladimir – the founder of Holy Russia and the first of the Russian saints ‒ will be held at St. Vladimir Memorial Churchin Jackson, NJ. Bessemer, AL: Alabama Missions Conference to be held at St. John Cassian Mission

On Saturday, July 15, all four of the ROCOR Alabama mission parishes will be celebrating joint Matins and Divine Liturgy. This is the first such gathering of the missions in Alabama, all of which are relatively new additions to the Eastern American Diocese. Reminder from Synod of Bishops regarding Palm Sunday Collection

As the great feast of the Entrance of the Lord into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday) approaches, the rectors and abbots of the Diocese are reminded of the annual plate collection to be taken in all of our parishes and monasteries to benefit the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem. This collection should be made both during the All-Night Vigil and the Divine Liturgy, to be preceded by a few words on the asceticism of the members of our Mission under very difficult circumstances, as they preserve and protect the holy sites and relics, welcoming multitudes of pilgrims and representing our Church in the Holy Land.


New York City: Lecture on Order of Divine Services in Russian Orthodox Church to be held at Synodal Cathedral

This coming Sunday, April 2, after Divine Liturgy and a luncheon at the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City, at approx. 1:30 PM, a lecture and discussion "On the Order of Divine Services in the Russian Orthodox Church" will be delivered by Peter Fekula ‒ reader, author, and conductor of the Synodal Choir. The event (conducted in Russian) is for all those who are interested in a greater understanding of the Orthodox divine services. Simultaneous translation into English will be provided on request. Entry is free of charge.


Church Mutual Insurance Company accepting Religious Scholarship Applications

Church Mutual, which insures ROCOR’s Eastern American Diocese, is currently accepting applications for religious scholarships. Church Mutual’s “Religious Scholars Program” is offering 50 scholarships of $5,000 each for a total of $250,000 for the 2017-18 academic year. The scholarship is for religious scholars to use toward the completion of their academic year.


Albany, NY: Third Annual Pascha Youth Choir Concert to be held Saturday, April 22

For the third year now, the Youth Choir of the St. Vladimir Youth Association will sing the Divine Liturgy and perform a Paschal concert on Bright Saturday. This year, the young singers will sing Liturgy and perform the concert on Saturday, April 22, at the Nativity of the Mother of God Church in Albany, NY.


Old Testament Lectionary & Cue Cards for Great Lent Available on Diocese Website

The Eastern American Diocesan website is now offering for download the Old Testament Lectionary for Sixth Hour and Vespers on weekdays during Great Lent, as well as cue cards for clergy, specifically the Prayer of St. Ephraim the Syrian, and the verses on the Hours. Everything is available in English and Church Slavonic.

The Lectionary for the first week of Lent is available, and will be gradually completed over the course of the fast.

Resolution of ROCOR Synod of Bishops on the 100th anniversary of the revolution in Russia and the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Reunification of the Russian Church

At the session of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Church Abroad, held on Thursday, December 8, 2016, Synod members resolved to prayerfully mark the 100th anniversary of the tragic events associated with the revolution in Russia in all churches of the Russian Church Abroad (the dates of the services for the departed, as well as a special petition to be read thereat, are outlined in the text below), as well as to instruct the rectors of parishes and monasteries of the Russian Church Abroad to lift up, during the Divine Liturgy on the feast day of the Ascension of the Lord, the "Prayer for the Prosperity of the Russian Church." Albany, NY: Tikhvin Project begins Fifth Year

Project Tikhvin began in 2012 with the blessing of His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York. Each year, a small group of young people travels to Russia to assist in the restoration of ancient churches and monasteries. The group visits the holy places of northern Russia in St. Petersburg, Pskov, Tikhvin, and the regions surrounding Lake Ladoga


Resolution of ROCOR Synod of Bishops to convene a Council of Bishops in Munich on June 9-15

At the session of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Church Abroad, held on Thursday, December 8, 2016, Synod members resolved to convene a Council of Bishops on June 9th of this year in Munich, to coincide with the great consecration of the Cathedral of the Holy New Martyrs & Confessors of Russia in that city. In connection with the forthcoming Council, it was likewise resolved to implement a dues schedule for all of the parishes of the Russian Church Abroad. Albany, NY: Diocesan Youth Choir Weekend to be held at Nativity of the Mother of God Church

On Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th of February, the Eastern American Diocesan Youth Choir will hold a "Youth Choir Weekend" at Nativity of the Mother of God Church in Albany, NY. The weekend will consist of a repertoire rehearsal on Saturday at 11:00 AM, followed by the Choir singing both the All-Night Vigil and Divine Liturgy.


Albany, NY: Nativity of the Mother of God Church to hold Tikhvin Gala Dinner

On Friday, February 10, the parish of Nativity of the Mother of God Church in Albany, NY will host a gala dinner to raise money for "Project Tikhvin." The Project sends young Orthodox Christians to Russia for nearly a month to work on the restoration of ancient monasteries.

Sea Cliff, NY: 2017 Pilgrimage to Holy Land being Organized

Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan will lead a pilgrimage of clergy and laity to the Holy Land on August 1-14, 2017. The pilgrimage will begin with the patronal feast of the Russian Convent in honor of St. Mary Magdalene in Gethsemane, and will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the episcopal consecration of the ever-memorable Metropolitan Laurus. 


An Appeal from the Chancery of the Moscow Patriarchate regarding Black Sea Plane Crash

In connection with the crash of the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense airplane Tu-154, with the blessing of His Holiness KYRILL, Patriarch of Moscow & All Russia, a general panihida is to be served for the newly departed servants of God killed in the plane crash on the Black Sea in all churches of the Russian Orthodox Church on the third day after this tragedy – December 27. Further, daily commemoration of the departed at Proskomedia and Divine Liturgy must be performed until the fortieth day – February 2, 2017.


Jordanville: Holy Trinity Seminary opens Search for Seminary Dean

Buena, NJ: Appeal from Holy Virgin Protection Skete

On Saturday, August 13, an automobile collision sent one car flying into the main church at Holy Virgin Protection Skete in Buena, NJ, causing severe damage to the front entrance to the building.
