Sunday, July 30, will mark the annual national St. Vladimir’s Day Celebrations, in honor of the Baptism of the Russian people into the Orthodox Christian Faith by St. Vladimir. In accordance with Diasporan tradition, the national celebrations in honor of St. Vladimir – the founder of Holy Russia and the first of the Russian saints ‒ will be held at St. Vladimir Memorial Churchin Jackson, NJ. As the great feast of the Entrance of the Lord into Jerusalem (Palm Sunday) approaches, the rectors and abbots of the Diocese are reminded of the annual plate collection to be taken in all of our parishes and monasteries to benefit the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem. This collection should be made both during the All-Night Vigil and the Divine Liturgy, to be preceded by a few words on the asceticism of the members of our Mission under very difficult circumstances, as they preserve and protect the holy sites and relics, welcoming multitudes of pilgrims and representing our Church in the Holy Land.
This coming Sunday, April 2, after Divine Liturgy and a luncheon at the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City, at approx. 1:30 PM, a lecture and discussion "On the Order of Divine Services in the Russian Orthodox Church" will be delivered by Peter Fekula ‒ reader, author, and conductor of the Synodal Choir. The event (conducted in Russian) is for all those who are interested in a greater understanding of the Orthodox divine services. Simultaneous translation into English will be provided on request. Entry is free of charge.
Church Mutual, which insures ROCOR’s Eastern American Diocese, is currently accepting applications for religious scholarships. Church Mutual’s “Religious Scholars Program” is offering 50 scholarships of $5,000 each for a total of $250,000 for the 2017-18 academic year. The scholarship is for religious scholars to use toward the completion of their academic year.
For the third year now, the Youth Choir of the St. Vladimir Youth Association will sing the Divine Liturgy and perform a Paschal concert on Bright Saturday. This year, the young singers will sing Liturgy and perform the concert on Saturday, April 22, at the Nativity of the Mother of God Church in Albany, NY.
The Eastern American Diocesan website is now offering for download the Old Testament Lectionary for Sixth Hour and Vespers on weekdays during Great Lent, as well as cue cards for clergy, specifically the Prayer of St. Ephraim the Syrian, and the verses on the Hours. At the session of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Church Abroad, held on Thursday, December 8, 2016, Synod members resolved to convene a Council of Bishops on June 9th of this year in Munich, to coincide with the great consecration of the Cathedral of the Holy New Martyrs & Confessors of Russia in that city. On Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th of February, the Eastern American Diocesan Youth Choir will hold a "Youth Choir Weekend" at Nativity of the Mother of God Church in Albany, NY. The weekend will consist of a repertoire rehearsal on Saturday at 11:00 AM, followed by the Choir singing both the All-Night Vigil and Divine Liturgy.
On Friday, February 10, the parish of Nativity of the Mother of God Church in Albany, NY will host a gala dinner to raise money for "Project Tikhvin." The Project sends young Orthodox Christians to Russia for nearly a month to work on the restoration of ancient monasteries.

In connection with the crash of the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense airplane Tu-154, with the blessing of His Holiness KYRILL, Patriarch of Moscow & All Russia, a general panihida is to be served for the newly departed servants of God killed in the plane crash on the Black Sea in all churches of the Russian Orthodox Church on the third day after this tragedy – December 27. On Saturday, August 13, an automobile collision sent one car flying into the main church at Holy Virgin Protection Skete in Buena, NJ, causing severe damage to the front entrance to the building.
