New York: Conference on Translation & Hymnography in Memory of Monk Joseph (Lambertsen) to take place in Synod of Bishops

On Saturday, May 11, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, a conference on Translation and Hymnography in Memory of Monk Joseph (Lambertsen) will take place in the Synod of Bishops in New York City.

Dedicated to the memory of translator and hymnographer Monk Joseph (Lambertsen; earlier, Brother Isaac) and his editor and publisher Archpriest Gregory Williams, this conference seeks to provide an overview of the current state of translation and hymnography in English and Orthodox mission today. The conference will bring together translators and hymnographers to start a conversation that will be beneficial to them and to the Church as a whole. All types of church translations, from liturgical and hagiographical to historical and other types of church-related texts, will be covered.

Participants will have the opportunity to share their aspirations for and concerns about these topics, to make suggestions for future directions in translation and hymnography, and to propose an agenda for future conferences. Keynote speakers include Deacons Nicholas Kotar (cleric of Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY) and Joseph Kimball (cleric of St. Alexander Nevsky Memorial Church in Richmond, ME), Dr. Nadieszda Kizenko, Dr. Xenia J. Nenchin, and Lisa Priebe.

For more information or to register, please contact Dr. Xenia Nenchin by e-mail at jacnen@gmail.com or on the Facebook event page here.
