On Friday, October 5, with the blessing of His Eminence Alexander, Metropolitan of Riga & All Latvia, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God was brought to Lativa.
Accompanying the icon to Riga was Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan and a delegation from the Russian Church Abroad.
Greeting the wonderworking icon at the airport were Metropolitan Alexander, Their Graces, Bishops Alexander of Daugavpils & Rēzekne and John of Jelgava, vicar of the Riga Diocese, Riga city clergy, and press. The first moleben in the Lativan land was served in the VIP hall of the Riga Airport.
Later, the icon was taken to the diocesan cathedral of the Nativity of Christ. Greeting the icon in a procession was a multitude of believers. A moleben was served and immediately after, the All-Night Vigil.
