On Saturday, September 7, the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God arrived in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from New York City, beginning her visitation to the Central Asian Metropolitanate.
The principal holy icon of the Russian Church Abroad was greeting triumphally at the gates of Holy Dormition Diocesan Cathedral in Tashkent. Greeting the wonderworking icon of the Heavenly Queen was the primate of the Central Asian Metropolitanate, Metropolitan Vikenty (Vincent) of Tashkent & Uzbekistan; Archbishop Theophylact of Pyatigorsk & Cherkessk, Administrator pro tempore of the Patriarchal Deanery of Parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church in Turkmenistan; Bishop Daniel of Bishkek & Kyrgyzstan, Bishop Paul of Dushanbe & Tajikistan, and Bishop Arseny of Yuriev.
Accompanying the wonderworking icon in her travels are Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan and clergy of the Diocese of Australia & New Zealand of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
Upon completing a short moleben before the wonderworking icon of the Mother of God, Metropolitan Vikenty addressed worshippers with an edifying sermon.
In reply, Bishop Nicholas congratulated all those present with this festal day – the arrival of the Kursk Icon to Tashkent.
