Brooklyn, NY: Metropolitan Hilarion surveys Renovations at Holy New Martyrs Church

On Thursday, March 25, His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, visited Holy New Martyrs & Confessors of Russia Church in Brooklyn, NY, in order to survey the progress of recent renovations in the church building. He was accompanied by His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan.

The diocesan hierarchs were greeted by rector Archpriest Serge Lukianov and members of the parish council:: Archpriest Petro Kunitsky, Subdeacon Ihor Zayats, warden Boris Popov, and warden’s assistants Vladimir Pomagrin and Ivan Zvonarev.

During their meeting, Fr. Serge gave a general outline of the current state of the renovation. The iconostasis is currently being prepared, while the icons for it will be painted in the near future, while issues relating to the holy altar table, the table of oblation, analogia, liturgical vessels, frescoing, and installation of a new, larger cupola are all being decided. Subdeacon Ihor acquainted the bishops with the repair work being done explaining the necessity of fixing the roof and cleaning the building’s exterior.

All of the meeting participants shared their visions and thoughts. In the basement, which is currently temporarily outfitted to hold the divine services, the hierarchs venerated the holy altar table and the church’s icon and relics, and prayerfully blessed this good work and those executing it, wishing the workers, donors, and all of the church’s parishioners true faith, good health, and zeal in good works.
