Howell, NJ: On Bright Monday, Bishop Nicholas celebrates Liturgy in St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

On Bright Monday, April 25, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan paid an archpastoral visit to St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Howell, NJ, where he celebrated Divine Liturgy.

Concelebrating with His Grace were: Archpriests Serge Lukianov (cathedral rector), Zoran Radovic (rector of St. George Serbian Church in Elziabeth, NJ), Boris Slootsky (cathedral cleric), and Serge Ledkovsky (deputy rector of St. Vladimir Memorial Church in Jackson, NJ), Priest Anthony Williams, Protodeacon Paul Drozdowski, and Deacon Alexandre Sarandinaki (cathedral clerics), and Deacon Dimitry Lisan (cathedral cleric).

Liturgy was held under the aegis of the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora – the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God.

A multitude of cathedral parishioners and visitors from neighboring churches came to pray at the service. Virtually all those present communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.

Upon completion of Liturgy, Bishop Nicholas greeted everyone with the radiant feast of Pascha, and said to the faithful, in part:

"Where Christ is, there is true life. In church now everything is being sung and the people exult that Christ has risen from the dead and granted us eternal life. Coming to the tomb, the myrrh-bearing women saw an angel, who told them to go to Christ’s disciples and announce to them that Christ had risen. We should all know that we have the true Orthodox Faith: we have the Savior, we have Pascha, we have salvation. Let us fear nothing, but by our life, our deeds, and our good behavior preach that Christ is with us and that the risen Savior is with all peoples, especially during these days, when Christ is so needed by so many around the world."

Upon completion of the service, a procession was held by the clergy, faithful, and children bearing the icon of the Resurrection, the Kursk Root Icon, and others. Upon returning to the church, Bishop Nicholas anointed the faithful with holy myrrh. The traditional children’s holiday was then held in the parish.

In the parish hall, the sisterhood prepared a wonderful Paschal luncheon for the clergy and faithful.
