On Friday, May 6, when the Holy Church honors the memory of the Holy Great-Martyr and Trophy-Bearer George, the Cossack parish of the same name in Howell, NJ, celebrated its patronal feast. St. George’s rector Archpriest Serge Lukianov officiated the divine services, co-served by clerics of neighboring St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral: Archpriest Boris Slootsky, Priest Anthony Williams, and Protodeacon Paul Drozdowski.
Those who gathered to honor the saint’s memory communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries. Upon completion of Liturgy, the clergy and faithful performed a procession around the church.
Addressing the worshippers, Fr. Serge said in his sermon, in part:
"St. George was a warrior for Christ. Through his example of suffering and steadfastness, the Empress-Martyr Alexandra denounced her pagan husband the emperor and proclaimed her Christianity. In these difficult times, more than ever we need to also be warriors for Christ and not stray away from Him for a minute. Through our example, others will follow Christ and be saved."
A festal luncheon was organized for all in the Cossack hall, during which the brotherly interaction of the clergy and faithful continued.
