North Port, FL: Transfiguration in Our Lady of Pochaev Church

On August 19, the Orthodox Church celebrates the great feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. This feast calls on every Christian to transform his life, to cleanse his soul of sins and passions, and to fill it with the light of repentance and love for God and neighbor. This is a very important task for every Christian, especially during the time of the Dormition Fast. Additionally, it was on this feast that our forebears would bring as a gift to God the firstfruits of the harvest, having their grapes and apples blessed. This day was especially festive in the Church of Our Lady of Pochaev in North Port, FL.

On Friday evening, Hieromonk Arkadii (Polishchuk) and Deacon Alexander Kharitoniuk served the All-Night Vigil with litia. On Saturday, August 19, Divine Liturgy was celebrated, along with the blessing of the fruits and other offerings. Officiating the service was parish rector Archimandrite Stefan (Khilchuk), co-served by Archpriest Theodore Rastorguyev (UOC cleric), Priest Daniel Sobolev (deputy rector of St. Sophia Church in Kissimmee, FL), and Hierodeacon Paisius (Alexeevets) and Deacon Alexander Kharitoniuk (UOC clerics).

The feast concluded with a luncheon and fellowship between parishioners.
