Our ROCOR mission in Nicaragua has planted a seed in a place called Matagalpa; which means "place of the ten hills" or "place where hills abound."
In this north-central region of Nicaragua, our Orthodox mission of St. John of Shanghai has been developing with the blessing of our Church hierarchy, bringing salvation to the local people. Matagalpa is a community that for many years has been unaware of our Orthodox way of life and the spiritual wealth that Orthodoxy can provide to society.
Ours is the first ROCOR parish in the history of Nicaragua.
Our work is being carried out in three locations: downtown Matagalpa in the Primero de Mayo neighborhood, a rural action area on the outskirts called Lomas, and a pastoral area in the Zadrach Zeledon neighborhood. In this three-fold mission, a spiritual and social service has been developed for people in need, taking into account that St. John (Maximovitch) is our protector.
We celebrate various services during the week, and on Sundays we serve Divine Liturgy in these different areas, which gets complicated due to distances, road conditions, and travel limitations.
The intentions and efforts of our Matagalpa mission have not been enough to make the work of the Orthodox Church flourish, but it is well worth your support.
We ask God through your human kindness to have an Orthodox church in the heart of Matagalpa, which will be a place of spiritual welcome for all those who wish to come to the true Faith (being the first in history under ROCOR).
We are seeking a sister parish to share in our labors.
Would your parish like to partner with us?
In Christ,
