Newark, NJ: Bishop Nicholas leads Patronal Feast of Our Lady of Kazan Church

On Friday, November 4, the feast day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, vicar of the Eastern American Diocese, visited Our Lady of Kazan Church in Newark, NJ and celebrated the Divine Liturgy there in honor of the parish’s patronal feast day.

His Grace was co-served by:

- Archpriest Serge Lukianov (Eastern American Diocesan secretary)
- Archpriest Mark Burachek (parish rector)
- Archpriest Alexis Duncan (rector of Nativity of the Mother of God Church in Albany, NY)
- Archpriest George Zelenin (rector of St. Michael’s Church in Paterson, NJ)
- Archpriest Zoran Radovic (rector of St. George’s Serbian Church in Elizabeth, NJ)
- Abbot Photius (Oulanov; cleric of Holy Intercession Church in Glen Cove, NY)
- Priest Dmitri Don (rector of Sts. Cosmas & Damian Church in Passaic, NJ)
- Protodeacon Dimitri Temidis (cleric of Holy Virgin Protection Church in Nyack, NY)
- Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky & Hierodeacon Panteleimon (Jigalin; cleric of Holy Dormition Convent "Novo-Diveevo" in Nanuet, NY)
- Protodeacon Dionyius Lvov (cleric of the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City), and
- Deacon Vladimir Barros (cleric of Holy Intercession Church in Glen Cove)

Arriving at church for the moleben was the clergy of Novo-Diveevo – Archpriests Alexander Fedorowski and Yaroslav Belikow.

Parish parishioners and faithful from neighboring parishes gathered in the church to pray at the festal Liturgy and commune of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.

Upon completion of the Liturgy, a short moleben was served to the Most Holy Theotokos. Bishop Nicholas congratulated the concelebrating clergy and worshippers with the feast, and addressed them with a sermon. His Grace also spoke about the travels of the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God to Kursk and Mordovia. "Wherever the Mother of God went, thousands of the faithful came to her and gave us donations and slips with words of thanksgiving, requests for prayers, and stories of miracles which had taken place."

The parish sisterhood prepared a luncheon for the clergy, parishioners, and guests. In the course of their brotherly interaction, many kind words were addressed to the rector and parishioners. Fr. Serge Lukianov presented Fr. Mark Burachek with a pectoral cross that had once belonged to his spiritual father and concelebrant Archimandrite Gelasii (Mayboroda; +1994).
