Glen Cove, NY: Bishop Nicholas leads Joint Presanctified Liturgy between Two Parishes

On Friday, April 1, during the third week of Great Lent, a joint Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts was served in Holy Virgin Intercession Church in Glen Cove, NY between the clergy and parishioners of that church and of its neighbor, St. Seraphim Memorial Church in Sea Cliff. The Liturgy was led by Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, vicar of the Eastern American Diocese. His Grace was co-served by the rectors of St. Seraphim and Holy Intercession Churches – Archpriests Serafim Gan and Alexandre Antchoutine (resp.), clerics of Holy Intercession Church Hieromonk Photius (Oulanov) and Deacon Vladimir Barros, clerics of St. Seraphim Church Protodeacons Paul Wolkow and Eugene Kallaur, and Protodeacon Vadim Gan (cleric of the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City).

The tradition of holding joint Liturgies of the Presanctified Gifts during Great Lent has been taking place in these two parishes for several years. In the second week of Great Lent, on Friday, March 25, the Presanctified Liturgy was served in St. Seraphim Memorial Church, where the service took place under the aegis of the myrrh-streaming Icon of the Mother of God "Softener of Evil Hearts," visiting from Moscow. The Icon also traditionally visits the parishes and monasteries of the Eastern American Diocese during Great Lent.

As has become customary, the joint lenten Presanctified Liturgies are sung by a combined male choir under the direction of Peter Fekula, conductor of the Hierarchal Choir at the Synodal Cathedral and parishioner of Holy Intercession Church. Praying and communing at the service were many parishioners of both churches.

Addressing the worshippers, Bishop Nicholas expressed support for the idea of faithful from two churches gathering together for prayer during Great Lent, noting that: "the more we will pray together, the more easily we will complete the time of Great Lent and the more easily we will achieve salvation."

Upon completion of the Liturgy, the parish sisterhood invited the clergy and parishioners to a luncheon.
