New York City: On Sunday of Triumph of Orthodoxy, Metropolitan Hilarion leads Divine Services in Synodal Cathedral

On Sunday, March 20, the feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York celebrated the Divine Liturgy and Rite of Orthodoxy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City. The First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad was co-served by the cathedral’s senior priest, Archpriest Andrei Sommer, and cathedral clerics: Hieromonks Eutychius (Dovganyuk) and Tikhon (Gayfudinov), Priest Vitaly Lalyukov, Protodeacons Nicolas Mokhoff and Vadim Gan, and Deacon Dionysius Lvov. Upon completion of the Liturgy, the serving clergy were joined by Archpriest Alexandre Antchoutine (dean of Long Island & the Hudson Valley) and Deacon Vladimir Barros (cleric of Holy Virgin Intercession Church in Glen Cove, NY).

On this sunny day, the feast was made doubly joyful by two wonderworking icons of the Most Holy Theotokos present in the church: the Kursk Root Icon and the myrrh-streaming "Softener of Evil Hearts" Icon, which is currently visiting from Moscow.

On the Sunday of Orthodoxy, in accordance with pious Orthodox tradition, many of the faithful communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries for the first time this Lenten season.

Upon completion of the Liturgy, the Rite of Orthodoxy was served, led by Metropolitan Hilarion. The "Anathemas" were intoned by Fr. Vadim Gan.

The cathedral sisterhood prepared a festal lenten luncheon for the clergy and parishioners.
