Wayne, WV: Bishop George blesses the Project Kellia Monastic Dormitory in Holy Cross Monastery

On Monday, January 5, His Grace George, Bishop of Mayfield, Abbot Seraphim (Voepel), and the clergy and monastics of Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, WV gathered in the nearly-completed Project Kellia building for the official blessing of the new monastic residence. The Project Kellia building has been dubbed the St. Panteleimon Dormitory, in honor of the monastery’s patron saint. It contains nine cells, an infirmary, and a medical exam room. Construction has continued steadily since the first blessing of the foundation of the building on November 7, 2012 – over two years ago. In March of 2014, the first resident of the new dormitory moved in with other monastics making their home in the building over the course of the summer and toward the end of the year as rooms were completed.

Though the St. Panteleimon Dormitory is now officially blessed and inhabited by seven monks, there is still some work to do before the building is completed. A number of bathroom fixtures still need to be purchased, and a wood-fired hot water heating system needs to be purchased. Please consider making a donation to the monastery’s building fund as the monks complete work on the Brotherhood Dorm. The monks of Holy Cross Monastery thank all of their benefactors who have contributed generously toward this project over the past few years, and wish them all God’s abundant blessings.
