Mayfield, PA: Bishop Nicholas celebrates Liturgy in St. John the Baptist Cathedral

On Sunday, January 4, with the blessing of Bishop George of Mayfield, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield, PA. His Grace was co-served by cathedral clergy: dean Archpriest John Sorochka, Archpriest Stavros Rousos, Archpriest Claude Vinyard, Priest Matthew Smith, Protodeacon Stephen Howanetz, Protodeacon Gregory Petrochko, and Deacon Nathaniel Sorochka, as well as Deacons Michael Wengrin (cleric of St. Basil’s Church, in neighboring Simpson) and Dimitri Krenitsky (cleric of Holy Trinity Church in Vineland, NJ).

The Liturgy was celebrated under the aegis of the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora, the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God.

The divine services were adorned by the singing of the cathedral choir, under the direction of choir conductor Paul (Gary) Brzuchalski.

At the Little Entrance, in honor of the 45th anniversary of his ordination into the Holy Priesthood and dedicated service to St. John’s Cathedral and the Holy Orthodox Church, Fr. John Sorochka was awarded the right to wear the second jeweled cross.

Upon completion of the Liturgy, His Grace attended a rehearsal in the cathedral’s center, where the youth were rehearsing for the upcoming annual Yolka, which will be held on Sunday January 11th.
