Resaca, GA: Metropolitan Hilarion visits Glorious Ascension Monastery on Feast of Transfiguration

On Thursday the 18th and Friday the 19th of August, the great feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York paid an archpastoral visit to the Monastery of the Glorious Ascension in Resaca, GA.

Monastery chaplain Priest Benedict Simpson served Great Vespers on Thursday evening and Matins on Friday. His Eminence then celebrated Divine Liturgy, co-served by the monastery’s abbot, Archimandrite Maximos (Weimar), Fr. Benedict, and visiting clergy: Priests Job Watts (rector of St. Nektarios Church in Lenoir City, TN), Eugene Antonov (rector of Joy of All Who Sorrow Church in Atlanta, GA), and Paul Andreasen (rector of St. John Cassian Chapel in Tuscaloosa, AL).

All of the services were well attended by many from the local community, as well as from parishes and missions from Tennessee and Alabama. After Liturgy, all who were present shared in a bountiful meal served by Sister Christonymphi and the patrons of the monastery.
