On Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th of Janary, the clergy and faithful of St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield, PA joyously greeted the great feast of the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The divine services were led by longtime cathedral rector Archpriest John Sorochka, co-served by cathedral clerics: Protodeacons Gregory Petrochko and Stephen Howanetz, and Deacon Nathaniel Sorochka. Parish Deacon Michael Pavuk also sang and communed in church. Upon completion of the Liturgy, a short moleben was served before the Icon of Christ’s Nativity, while after the service, parishioners came together to sing Christmas carols.
The following morning, the Sunday after the Nativity and the Synaxis of the Most Holy Theotokos, the above-mentioned clergy were joined by Archpriest Claude Vinyard (rector of Holy Protection Mission in Lewisburg, PA).
After Liturgy, all of the parishioners and guests were invited to the annual open house reception in the rector’s home, during which the interaction between the clergy and faithful continued at length; words of well-wishing and congratulations on the occasion of the joyous and radiant feast of Christ’s Nativity.
