Palm Cost, FL: Bishop Nicholas leads Patronal Feast of St. Nicholas Church

On Monday evening, Bishop Nicholas led the All-Night Vigil, and Tuesday morning celebrated the festal Divine Liturgy, co-served by Priest Vladimir Kaydanov (parish rector), Priest Theodore Stavru (retired cleric), Protodeacon Leonid Roschko (cleric of St. Alexander Nevsky Diocesan Cathedral in Howell, NJ), and Deacons Leo Opie and John Kern (parish clerics). Parishioners lovingly decorated the church for the feast.

During the reading of the hours, Bishop Nicholas ordained Reader Alexander Peretyagin a subdeacon.

Numerous faithful gathered in the church to pray to the Holy Hierarch Nicholas, and many communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.

At the conclusion of the service, His Grace congratulated the clergy and parishioners with their patronal feast day, and remarked that a patronal feast day for a church is its "second Pascha." Speaking of the saint widely loved among the Orthodox – St. Nicholas – Bishop Nicholas stated that every Thursday, the Church commemorates the memory of the Holy Hierarch Nicholas, Archbishop & Wonderworker of Myra in Lycia, and expressed his joy in that every Thursday, an akathist is read to the saint in this church. His Grace also reminded believers that it is vital to go to church and receive Christ’s Holy Mysteries. He thanked them all for their prayers, and especially remarked on the adornment of the church.

Fr. Vladimir expressed his gratitude to Bishop Nicholas for his visit and shared prayers, and presented him with a vial of myrrh from the relics of St. Nicholas in Bari.

Bishop Nicholas relayed well-wishes from Metropolitan Hilarion and presented a number of diocesan gramotas to parishioners who have tirelessly labored for the upkeep and unity of the parish: Subdeacon Alexander & Lubov M. Peretyagin, Viktor N. & Maria V. Beluha, Elena A. Aksenova, Valery V. & Eugenia Y. Pereverov, and Olga A. Shtepa.

The parish sisterhood organized a festal banquet under open skies, where the Polychronion was intoned for namesday celebrants and for parishioners celebrating their birthday in May, and at which the clergy and parishioners continued their interaction with one another.
