Russia: Bishop Nicholas participates in Celebrations of Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God

On Monday, July 9, the feast day of the Finding of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God, Metropolitan Barsanuphius of St. Petersburg & Ladoga celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Monastery of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Tikhvin, Russia.

His Eminence was joined by His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan; His Grace Marcellus, Bishop of Tsarskoe Selo; His Grace Nazarius, Bishop of Kronstadt; His Grace Metrophanes, Bishop of Gatchina & Luzhsk; His Grace Ignatius, Bishop of Armavir & Labinsk; His Grace Mstislav, Bishop of Tikhvin & Lodeynoe Pole, abbot of the monastery; the monastery brethren, clergy of the Eastern American, St. Petersburg & Tikhvin Dioceses.

Abbesses of local convents of the Metropolitanate prayed at the service.

The wonderworking Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God was brought out of the church and placed on an analogion under a tent, where a moleben was served before it. Metropolitan Barsanuphius relayed the congratulations of His Holiness Kyrill, Patriarch of Moscow & All Russia, and delivered a sermon.

The ruling bishop of the St. Petersburg Metropolitanate gave Bishop Mstislav a panagia featuring an icon of the Mother of God. Bishop Mstislav thanked Metropolitan Barsanuphius for their joint prayer, presented him with a bouquet of flowers, and noted that among the worshippers that day were participants of the "Path of the Theotokos" Procession and pilgrims from the U.S., whence the icon was brought back to Russia 14 years ago.
