On Sunday, December 2, His Grace George, Bishop of Canberra, paid an archpastoral visit to St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Mayfield, PA, where he celebrated Divine Liturgy.
Presently, the vicar of the Diocese of Australia & New Zealand is visiting the East Coast in order to take part in the celebrations of the patronal feast of the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City, which will take place on December 9-10, as well as the regularly scheduled meeting of the ROCOR Synod of Bishops. His visit to the community of St. John the Baptist is especially meaningful, since from 2008-2015 Bishop George was Bishop of Mayfield, vicar of the Eastern American Diocese, and made many close friendships with the clergy and faithful of that parish.
Concelebrating with His Grace at Liturgy were cathedral rector Archpriest John Sorochka, Priest Daniel Franzen (cleric of the Mid-American Diocese), and Protodeacon Stephen Howanetz and Deacon Michael Pavuk (cathedral clerics).
After the service, a bountiful luncheon was offered in the parish hall, where interaction between the clerics and parishioners and their beloved former archpastor continued.
