New York City: Bishop Nicholas leads Divine Services on Great & Holy Wednesday

On Great and Holy Wednesday, April 24, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan celebrated the final Liturgy of Presanctified Gifts for this year in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City. His Grace was co-served by cathedral senior priest Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Priest Serge Mironenko (rector of St. Colman Church in Ireland), and cathedral clerics Archpriest Edward Chervinsky and Protodeacon Nicolas Mokhoff.

Liturgy was held under the aegis of the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God, recently returned from visiting the Diocese of Great Britain.

Upon conclusion of Liturgy, Bishop Nicholas addressed the faithful with a sermon.

Later that evening, Bishop Nicholas paid an archpastoral visit to the church of the icon of the Mother of God "Unexpected Joy" on Staten Island, where His Grace led the Matins of Great and Holy Thursday. Co-serving with Bishop Nicholas was parish rector Abbot Vladimir (Zgoba).

Bringing great joy to the parishioners was the arrival of the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora – the Kursk Root Icon. After Matins, Bishop Nicholas led a short moleben to the Most Holy Theotokos and anointed the faithful.

After the service, a lenten dinner was held in the parish hall.
