Howell, NJ: Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan pays Archpastoral Visit to St. Alexander Nevsky Diocesan Cathedral

On Monday, April 29, the second day of Pascha, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan paid an archpastoral visit to St. Alexander Nevsky Diocesan Cathedral in Howell, NJ, where he celebrated the Paschal Divine Liturgy.

Concelebrating with His Grace were: cathedral rector Archpriest Serge Lukianov, Archpriests Rafael Melendez and Seraphim Chemodakov (cathedral clerics), Zoran Radovic (rector of St. George Serbian Church in Elizabeth, NJ), Leonid Goferman (rector of Holy Virgin Protection Church in New Brunswick, NJ), and Serge Ledkovsky (deputy rector of St. Vladimir Memorial Church in Jackson, NJ); Abbot Tikhon (Gayfudinov; rector of Holy Protection Skete in Buena, NJ), Priest George Kaplanov and Protodeacon Paul Drozdowski (cathedral clerics), and Deacons Andrei Psarev (cleric of Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY), Alexis Golubov (cleric of St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in New York City), and Rostislav Wojtenko (cleric of St. Vladimir Memorial Church).

To the joy of the clergy and faithful, the myrrh-streaming icon of the Mother of God "Softener of Evil Hearts" also visited the cathedral, having arrived from Jordanville at the conclusion of this year’s visitation to the churches and monasteries of the Diocese.

At the service, Bishop Nicholas tonsured Andrei Silov a reader and then ordained him a subdeacon; he will fulfill his obedience at St. Joasaph of Belgorod Church in Brooklyn, NY.

The church was filled with worshippers, including children. It is a tradition at St. Alexander Nevsky Parish to celebrate the second day of Pascha as a children’s holiday. Most of those present communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.

After the service, everyone walked in procession around the cathedral: priests carried the icons of Christ’s Resurrection and of the Mother of God "Softener of Evil Hearts," while parishioners and children carried parish icons, large and small. Many voices called out, "Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen!"

Upon returning to the church, Bishop Nicholas congratulated the clergy and parishioners on Christ’s Glorious Resurrection.

The cathedral sisterhood organized a Paschal luncheon for all in the church hall.
