On May 12, the Sunday of the Myrrh-bearing Women, with the blessing of His Eminence Peter, Archbishop of Chicago & Mid-America, His Grace Nicholas, Bishop of Manhattan, celebrated Divine Liturgy in Holy Dormition Cathedral in Ferndale (Detroit), MI.
Concelebrating with His Grace at Liturgy were: Archpriests Roman Star (rector emeritus of St. Innocent Church in Redford, MI), Viktor Trotskyy (cathedral rector), and Gregory Joyce (dean of Michigan), and Deacons Ioann Feloniuk (cathedral cleric) and Dmitriy Kashchenko (cleric of St. Vladimir Church in Ann Arbor, MI).
Singing at Divine Liturgy was a combined choir from Holy Dormition Cathedral and St. Vladimir Church. Bishop Nicholas delivered a sermon on the Myrrh-bearing Women and the Righteous Joseph & Nicodemus (who are also commemorated on this day) and their example for us in our days.
Upon conclusion of Liturgy, Fr. Gregory Joyce welcomed Bishop Nicholas to the Diocese of Chicago & Mid-America on behalf of Archbishop Peter. In turn, Bishop Nicholas thanked Archbishop Peter for his blessing to serve at Holy Dormition Cathedral, and shared his impressions of the great change in the Cathedral interior since his last visit some years ago as a deacon when accompanying the late Metropolitan Laurus (Skurla; +2008) to Detroit.
After the kissing of the Cross, the faithful gathered in the parish hall for a meal prepared by the cathedral brotherhood.
